Roy J Jones, 84, of Rosedale passed away on Friday February 27, 2026, at Clinton Gardens.
He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on June 22, 1941, to Jesse Jones and Edna (Windley) Jones. Both precede Roy in death. Also preceding is his sister, Joy Scarborough, brother, Ronald Joseph Jones and sister-in-law, Sandra McMillan.
Roy was a retired card-carrying Teamster and finished his career with Yellow Freight. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp (1960-1964) stationed in Hawaii serving his country during the Vietnam era. While in the service he played the drums in the Marine Corp Band during which time he was honored to meet and shake hands with President John F. Kennedy and Mrs. Jackie Kennedy as well as playing for President Lyndon B. Johnson. His childhood best friend was Tommy John; Roy was his first neighborhood catcher for 16 years. Roy was inducted into the Wabash Valley Musician’s Hall of Fame.
Surviving is his loving wife, Linda (Jorritsma) Jones of Rosedale, son, Troy Jones of Battleground, IN., grandson, Luke Pierce Jones; brother-in-law Kenneth McMillan of Brazil, IN., brother-in-law Steven Triplet (Nancy) of Roscoe, IL.
Honoring Roy’s wishes cremation was chosen. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
